simple information about oman

The Sultanate of Oman is a state in the Middle East region, bordered by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The peculiarity of Oman is to be split in 3. The northern part, the Musandam Peninsula, is at the tip of the Strait of Ormuz. The city of Madha which is an enclave of 75 km2 inside the United Arab Emirates. And finally to the east, the largest part, that of Muscat, the capital. Oman has an area of 309,500 km2 (89 ° world rank). Most of the country is covered with mountains or desert, which explains the low population density (13 inhabitants / km2).
The Sultanate of Oman, headed by the sultan Quabus Ibn Said, has about 4 million subjects, including 700,000 expatriates. The majority is from the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan ...) They are, as in most countries of the Arabian Peninsula, workers, manpower.
The official language of Oman is Arabic. The currency of the country is the Omani Rial fixed on the US dollar (1 € = 0.53OMR). The HDI is 0.810 (ranked 56 °).
The colors of the Omani flag are red, white and green, the latter reminding the color of Islam which is the official religion of the country. The emblem on the flag depicts the Khanjar dagger, usually worn by Omani men during important ceremonies.
Oman is unique in the region in that it has maintained economic and political stability unlike other countries in the region that have had difficulties in these areas over the past decade. Despite its vast desert territory, Oman has kept an important economic place. Long marginalized and considered as one of the poorest countries in the world, it has today stood out. Unlike its neighboring countries, which were severely affected by the 2008 financial crisis, Oman has been only marginally affected by this problem on a global scale.
In a very turbulent regional context, the political assets of the Sultanate will be severely tested in the years to come. Its political challenges (democratization ...) and economic (strong growth of the population ...) will not be less! Moreover, its heavy dependence on foreign labor as well as oil extraction will be a real challenge that the Sultan will have to overcome. Finally, although the country seeks to open up to the world, it still wants to maintain its typical appearance.
