A mouse is a pointing device that connects to the computer. Specifically, the mouse can move the cursor (the arrow) on the screen. Held in the palm of the hand, it allows to point elements displayed on the screen and to select them by clicking. The mice are equipped with a displacement sensor which is either optical (light), laser or ball for the older ones. Also there are wired or wireless mice.
The story of the mouse

It was in 1963 that Douglas Engelbart invented the very first mouse, still far from what our mice look like today! In 1979 Jean-Daniel Nicoud improves the concept and invents the first ball mouse. This mouse is the origin of the company Logitech, currently leader in keyboards and mice.
1.3 Do I need a mouse on a laptop?

A trackpad (touchpad) of laptop
Yes and no ! Not because laptops are equipped with trackpads (touch pads): it is a rectangular touch area that allows you to move the cursor by moving your finger. That said the ergonomics of the device remains limited because of its small size and it is therefore advisable, for your comfort, to own a mouse. There are small ones to carry them easily with you.

How to connect and install a mouse?
The most common mice (and indeed for any electronic device) use a USB port, these rectangular universal plugs that you will find on all computers, fixed and portable. The advantage is that you can connect or unplug your mouse at any time.USB means: universal serial port, it wants to be the universal connection of any electronic device.

And for the installation, everything is automatic!
After plugging your mouse, wait a few moments, Windows will install it automatically and you can use your mouse a few seconds later!
But before that…
On very old computers, the mice were connected with a PS / 2 port which are green and purple round plugs and used to connect the keyboard and mouse.
2. Today's mice: a concentrate of technology
2.1 High-tech mice full of pimples
Our little mice grow and know acne tendencies: they have more and more buttons. But not too much hope because you could get lost. Here is a concentrate of technology by Logitech:

A Logitech Mouse Focused in Technology: Wireless, Multimedia Buttons, Laser Sensor
The side buttons are used to browse the Internet for example: a single press of the button, at the thumb, returns to the previous page or the next page. The recess for the thumb allows a pleasant grip of the mouse and the battery indicator lets you know when to recharge.
Computer mouse

It is possible to adjust the pointing of the mouse buttons depending on whether you are right-handed or left-handed.
A laptop or desktop is equipped with several devices: the computer mouse but also the computer screen, the camera PC, the printer, the USB key, the external hard drive and the computer keyboard.
Computer mouse: intuitive operation

The mouse is, just like the keyboard, a device for transmitting commands to the computer.
It moves the cursor on the screen and clicks an element to perform an action.
The mouse usually consists of two buttons and a wheel:
• left button (main button),
•       scroll wheel,
• right button (secondary button).
• But there are also mice with three buttons. Apple even offers a mouse with four buttons.
For each main action, each button has a role:
• click: press the main button to select an item or open a menu;
• double click: double press the main button, open elements;
• right click: opens a selection list;
• scroll: roll the scroll wheel, this scrolls through a list or page;
• central click on the wheel: to open a link in a new tab of its Navigator.
Good to know: Some mice also have additional buttons for navigation, acceleration, games ...

Different types of computer mouse
There are different types of mice:
• Mechanical mouse: mouse that works with a ball.
o The ball makes it possible to transmit the movements of the mouse to the computer.
o This type of mouse is less and less common.
o This type of mouse will often need to be cleaned to remove the dust that gets caught in the ball.
• Optical mouse: the movements of the mouse are analyzed by an LED.
• Laser mouse: The movements of the mouse are transmitted through a laser.
Computer mouse: wireless or wired
As for keyboards, there are mice with son or without son.
For mice with wires, there are two types of connectors that connect to the motherboard:
• USB,
• PS2.
There is adapter from a PS2 port to a USB mouse and vice versa.
Wireless mice work in:
• Bluetooth,
• Infrared,
•       Wireless.
These are the Bluetooth mice that tend to be the most convenient and reliable.

Good to know: Some wireless mice have a charging cradle, which avoids the problem of discharged batteries.
