1. General
2- socioeconomic
In 20 years, poverty has increased from 60% to 20% of the population. Demographic indicators are encouraging: a drop in infant and maternal mortality.
But fragilities remain. In particular the imbalance between urban and rural areas. The impoverishment of the latter and the influx of population into the cities that impoverish them. Moreover, the rural exodus linked to economic take-off in the cities leads to a growing dependence on imports.
Finally, at the level of training and education, the Government is engaged in a policy aimed at developing a larger skilled workforce.
economic and financial

Vietnam is a communist country that decided in 1986 to conduct a policy of renewal ("doi me") to gradually move to a market economy. After ten difficult years, the country's economic situation is stabilizing, with growth rates reaching 6.5% in 2010.
Currently, after the major devaluation of Dong in 2008 (23%), today the exchange rate has stabilized at 5.73%.
The economic stakes linked to the return of the crisis are numerous: the risk of non-payment by highly affected SMEs, the indebtedness of public banks, the persistent fragility of state-owned companies, and finally the strong dependence on direct investments in foreigners (FDI) and therefore to the world economy (still unstable).
The cost of labor is interesting, young and well trained, although gaps remain.
From an administrative point of view, bureaucratic red tape remains the main obstacle to foreign investment in Vietnam and business.

geographical and environmental
 Seismic and geological risk
Natural hazards in Vietnam are mainly related to typhoons that occur occasionally between May and January. They cause major and devastating floods especially in the Mekong Delta and the Red River Basin. At this point landslides can cut off roads and railways.
 Health and epidemic risk
Communicable diseases remain important, especially new ones appear regularly: SARS in 2003, H5N1 avian influenza in 2004).
Malaria is a public health problem; likewise for tuberculosis. Japanese encephalitis that is transmitted by insect bites and also worrying.
The common infections and viruses are: Diarrhea, Hand-foot-mouth syndrome, rabies risk, circulation of many enteroviruses, leptospirosis, hepatitis E, and chikungunya.
 Weight of the country in international institutions
Increasingly important place in regional and international institutions:
-Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN, 1995
Asia-Europe Meeting, ASEM 1995
-Reintegrates the Francophonie, 1997
-Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Organization, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC, 1998
-World Trade Organization, 2007
Temporary member of the United Nations Security Council, 2008-2009
-Participation underway in the negotiation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, TPP
Real dynamism in the creation of economic and political partnerships.
 Technology and innovation
The country has strengths in the field of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).
Existence of research and development centers in ITS, also a Ministry of Science and Technology.
Increasing development of training in the areas of technology, research laboratories and the parallel development of three High Tech parks.
But there is still a lot to do in this area.
Media and cultural recognition
Historically known as the country that defeated the United States and France.
Cultural heritage rich but unrecognized except Vietnamese: ranking of the cult of kings Hung UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity.
Important tourist contribution, but its cultural influence is limited to its diaspora.
 Influence vectors (cinema, media, diasporas ...)
Media and cinema little known.
Major role of the Vietnamese diaspora, also called Vietnamese Overseas, Viet Kiêu.
The World Bank ranks Vietnam as one of the top 10 countries in terms of receiving funds from the diaspora with about US $ 11 billion, with a growth rate of 6.5%.
The diaspora is also very active abroad to maintain the links between Vietnamese from abroad with the country, and to make the country known.
 NGOs
The organizations in Vietnam are numerous: the Association for Medical Development in Vietnam, the Association helps in Vietnam or more general associations such as ACASEA (Friendship and Cooperation with South East Asia). The UN in the field of Human Rights is taking a particularly important step.
 Interesting event to come: "France-Vietnam Year" straddling the year 2013/2014

Conclusion:
Vietnam is a country in full political and economic transition. With a one-party state regime, Vietnam is one of the few so-called communist countries. Yet since 1991, the country is engaged in a real dynamic of economic openness, evidenced by an average annual growth rate of 5% and the development of economic activity in the textile or aeronautics sector.
From a political point of view, the country is also relatively stable, although some internal tensions remain (conflict between the President and the Prime Minister). And external tensions with China, on the Spartley and Paracels Islands, are handled with great caution and diplomacy by the country.
However, the country faces many challenges; the reduction of geographical inequalities between urban and rural areas, also between the dominant ethnic group and other ethnic groups. The health situation is also worrying, and the Government must actively develop its educational policies.
In addition, following the 2008 crisis, the government has devalued the currency significantly, and only since 2013 have rates returned to normal.
Corruption in land remains important and can become a complication in case of investment.
Finally, last but not least, lies in the recurrent calls of the United Nations for freedoms.
In conclusion, the country is undergoing political, economic and social restructuring. It is about leaving the relics of anachronistic communism and absorbing the benefits of an open market.
The obstacles are numerous; In the case of investment, the state, local levels and a particularly fluid legal and regulatory framework must be kept in mind.
