You request an extension of the warranty for a device that has been under repair for a long time

Your washing machine (or refrigerator) is broken. Fortunately, this device is still under warranty. But, the downtime being very long, you worry that the expiration date of the commercial warranty is approaching. Article L. 211-16 of the Consumer Code provides that, in the event of downtime greater than or equal to seven days, the professional is required to extend the warranty period accordingly. This period starts from the date of the request for intervention or from the date on which the goods are made available for repair.

When you bring your device to the repairer, ask for a dated deposit receipt stating the time to repair. Whether your device is under warranty or not, get a repair certificate or invoice indicating the details of the work carried out. This document could be useful to you if, subsequently, you have to call into question one of the legal guarantees (guarantee of hidden defects, guarantee of conformity) of the seller. If the repair is not done properly, demand a new free repair.

Dear,

The appliance (identify it) that I bought from you broke down while it was still under warranty. It has been refurbished, and I thank you for that.

Unfortunately, the repairs were particularly long, since my device was immobilized from (date of the intervention request or date on which you brought the device to the seller) to (date on which the repaired device was put At your disposal).

Under these conditions, in accordance with article L. 211-16 of the Consumer Code, the duration of the guarantee is extended by (number of days).

Without a response from you, I will consider that the warranty extension has been granted to me.

Please accept, Madam, Sir, the expression of my best regards.
