RISKS RELATED TO PHYSICAL CONDITION

THE INJURY

INJURY PREVENTION .

In general, people who play sports are more prone than other people of the same age to muscle or tendon damage and bone fractures. This does not mean, however, that all sport should be avoided - the health benefits far outweigh the disadvantages of sports injuries.

sports injuries

Sports injuries can be prevented with good physical condition. Research has shown that a strength and flexibility program allows for better performance and reduces the risk of trauma.

When the injury occurs it reveals a defect in the physical preparation (basic training) in the choice of the equipment used or in the sports technique employed. It will lead to a future adjustment in the sports program but only if the care, immediate and long term, is adapted and carried out until total recovery.

Causes

The majority of muscle damage affects the legs and is attributable to the practice of a sport , mainly contact sports (football, hockey, boxing, rugby, etc.), potentially acrobatic sports (snowboarding, skateboarding, etc.) etc.) and those who require quick starts (tennis, basketball, sprint, etc.). They can be produced :

at the start of the exercise by excessive or insufficient training, poor warm-up or poor physical preparation technique;

at the end of the exercise by fatigue, a lack of flexibility of the muscle, an upset lengthening of the muscle;

by sudden, violent and uncoordinated movements , especially if there is an imbalance between the strength of the agonist muscles (which make the movement) and that of the antagonist muscles (which do the reverse movement) - for example, the biceps and triceps ;

by a direct hit with a hard object (crampon, knee of another athlete, pole, etc.);

due to too intense or prolonged effort ;

by a poorly healed previous muscle injury ;

by unsuitable training equipment .
