Lebanon is located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean. It covers an area of 10,452 km², an area roughly equal to that of the department of Gironde, the largest French department. Its capital is Beirut, located in the center of the west coast of the country. The country is bordered on the West by the Mediterranean, on the North and on the East by Syria, on the South by Israel, a State which it does not recognize and with which it is officially at war.
Lebanon gained independence in 1943. The regime chosen for the country is that of the parliamentary democratic republic. The Parliament is composed of 128 members elected by direct universal suffrage and the President of the Republic is elected by indirect universal suffrage by members of Parliament. The parliamentary and presidential mandates last 4 years. The 1926 Constitution establishes confessionalism as the basis for the distribution of political functions in so far as this constitution states that the Head of State (who is also the Head of the Armed Forces) must be a Christian, the Prime Minister, a Sunni Muslim, and the head of Parliament, Shia Muslim.

The Lebanese flag is composed of three horizontal stripes: two red bands that frame a white band in the middle. The red stripes symbolize the blood of Lebanese martyrs fallen for the liberation of the country. The white band covers half the surface of the flag and symbolizes both the snow covering the summit of the Lebanese mountains and peace and purity. In the middle of this white band is a cedar of Lebanon, emblematic tree of Lebanon, symbol of longevity and resistance. This tree is present in many biblical references.
The official currency is the Lebanese Pound (LBP) and its value is anchored to that of the US dollar at a rate of 1 dollar for 1507 LBP. It should be noted, however, that the US dollar is considered the second currency of the country. Indeed, the American currency circulates freely in the country, and one can easily carry out its exchanges in dollars, as well in the banks as in the small businesses.
According to the latest estimates [2], Lebanon is populated by 4.1 million inhabitants, 87% of whom are city dwellers. If it is the least populated country of the Near East, it is the one which knows one of the highest densities of population, with 390 inhabitants per km ². Densities are even higher in Beirut, where almost half of the population lives, or 1.8 million. It is important to note that today, it is estimated that one in four inhabitants of Lebanon is a refugee, Palestinian or Syrian. Lebanese abroad are difficult to estimate, estimates range from 3 to 13 million, the result of a long tradition of Lebanese emigration that began since the Ottoman period and especially in the late nineteenth century due to the plague which ravaged the country. the population is young, with a quarter to a third of the population (according to different sources) under the age of 15, and barely 10% of Lebanese aged 65 or over
The Constitution concedes Lebanon "an Arab face" [4], but does not specify the official language of the country. However, Arabic has emerged as the official language of the administration, although French and English are widely used as languages of education and social, financial and commercial exchanges. By not making Lebanon an Arab country, this formula does justice to some non-Arab communities (such as Armenians and Kurds) or does not consider itself as such, which is particularly the case of Christians who do not present as ethnically Arab and claim rather Canaanites or Phoenicians.
To this relative ethnic diversity is added religious diversity, more important and more serious consequences. In fact, the inhabitants of Lebanon are divided into 18 recognized confessional communities between Muslims (5 communities), Christians (12 communities) and Druze. Here is the geographical distribution of the main faith com
