policy

This political regime can be considered as the most stable in the world, it has not changed since the country's creation in 1948 following the partition of the Korean peninsula. The power is transmitted by the blood and we can a fortiori speak of dynasty. The official name of the country contains the word "Democratic". This is obviously an abuse of language, Western democracy as we know it is absolutely not appropriate, the power is concentrated in the hands of the leader and some senior dignitaries of the regime, all from the ranks military. The foundation of power lies in the labor party of Korea, the decision-making and institutional body, which runs the country.
The peculiarity of the country also comes from the fact that it is based on the cult of the personality, via incessant propaganda, placing the leader in the position of quasi-god. The very birth of Kim Il Sun has been transformed into a true myth, and the mountain in which it is officially born, is considered a holy place, where true pilgrimages take place. Thus, we find a giant statue of the founder of the regime in the capital, Pyongyang, and each home is equipped with portraits of the 3 leaders of the Kim family. Propaganda is omnipresent. For example, patriotic songs are heard on the subway and every day every schoolboy has to bow to the statue in question, or recite a poem to the glory of the regime and its leaders. The country being completely hermetic, the real brainwashing suffered by the population, allows the regime to maintain itself, gatherings being prohibited. As a result, there is no hint of rebellion, as the population has no access to external information and lives without awareness of its living conditions from another age. The inhabitants therefore live in a state of impoverishment advanced, and their living conditions are worthy of the Middle Ages especially in the countryside, where nothing is mechanized for example.

Regarding religion, the country officially respects religious freedom but in fact, it would be the country where Christians are most persecuted in the world, Bibles being banned for example. As we have just seen, the role of religion is almost nil, the country itself having created, through the adoration of its leaders, a religion in its own right.

Finally, at the level of the partitioning of borders, whether physical, virtual or digital (let's even say fractures), North Koreans do not have the right to leave their country without official authorization. Nevertheless, some students can follow a university course in Europe, the current leader having himself studied in Switzerland. As a result, the border with South Korea, on the way to the 38th parallel, is the most militarized zone in the world, with about a million soldiers monitoring it on both sides. It is therefore impossible to cross it and any citizen of the north trying to move south is shot or stopped in the best case. It has been shown by satellite images and by various testimonies of people who have managed to flee the regime, that there are labor camps similar to the Soviet gulag of the former USSR. The country is regularly put on the bench of nations concerning the multiple human rights violations: camps of political prisoners, tortures, arbitrary detentions, public executions, absence of freedom of expression, kidnapping of South Korean citizens to name only these examples. In the end the population does not enjoy any elementary right and this contrasts with the strange calm of which it shows. As analyzed above, she has no awareness of her condition and propaganda is the cause because she praises the regime and demonises the outside world.

Finally, among the few data we have, let us mention the state of corruption of the strong men of the regime. According to Transparency International, North Korea ranks 174 out of 176 of the most corruptible states, with a score of 8/100, tied with Somalia and Afghanistan. Almost unique today, the main danger and the main cause of destabilization comes from the regime itself and not from the people. Indeed this one via its foreign policy and the role of its army, represents a serious risk of instability for the region, but this will be evoked in the study of the hard power of this country. Let's move on to the analysis of the country's economic and financial conditions and factors.
