Activities, sports and leisure Lebanon
The fundamental asset of Lebanon is
nature. It allows him to offer a wide range of activities. The concept of
ecotourism, a trend in full development worldwide, is also gaining ground.
Besides cultural tourism, which is undoubtedly the most popular activity given
the impressive number of historical sites, religious tourism is also appreciated
in the form of pilgrimages.
Archaeological and historical sites
The city of Beirut, the Roman-Byzantine
site of Deir El Qalaa in Beit Mery, the Roman ruins of Baalbeck and Tire, the
temples and monuments of Byblos, the Phoenician temple of Echmoun, the Umayyad
city of Aanjar, the Mamluk architecture, mosques, churches and madrassas of
Tripoli, the charm of the port of Saida and the city of Beiteddine, arqa arqa
tell in Akkar, the citadel of Chehab in Hasbaya and Wadi El Taym.
landscapes
The gorges of the holy valley of the
Qadisha, the Cedar pass and the Jeita caves. Then many villages with typical
architecture and picturesque charm like I'aal in the north of the country,
Zalhe and the caves of Wadi El Habis in Furzol in the Beqaa Valley and many
more.
Outdoor activities
- Trekking, cycling, horse riding:
Lebanon offers great hiking opportunities in the mountains and gorges that
allow you to discover the unique flora and fauna of this country. Particularly
recommended: the holy valley of Qadîsha, succession of sites and refuge of the
Maronite Christians during centuries.
Let's mention the Lebanon Mountain Trail,
a marked route of 440 km in the Lebanese mountains.
- Paragliding: adventure at the top of
the world. The feeling of freedom over the earth and under the sky above the
cedar forest or the Qadīsha valley.
- Speleology: underground Lebanon also
has treasures. An original activity to practice however with vigilance.
Aquatic activities
Lebanon offers more than 200 km of
coastline, as well as the many rivers where you can indulge in activities as
varied as water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving (wreck of a sub
Second World War sailor at Khaldé and ancient remains off Tire), rafting,
kayaking (Al Awali river bed) etc.
On the Lebanese coast, the sandy beaches
are quite rare, but everyone bathes by diving rocks or artificial platforms
built on the jetties. The bathing places around the rocks are often good dive
sites. As for the most beautiful sandy beach, it is in the extreme south of the
country, south of Tire in the Jiyeh region, between Damour and Saïda. There are
others near Byblos and Chekka, near Tripoli.
