Climate, seasons and weather Oman
Oman is divided into two climatic zones: in the North and East, the climate is Mediterranean, while the South and West enjoy a tropical influence with the arrival of the monsoon tails between June and September.

In the center of the country predominates a desert climate. It is hot all year long, with a monthly average of maxima higher than 25 ° C. Oman knows no intermediate seasons: we go from a summer of eight months (March to October) to a winter of four months from November to February. Unlike other deserts where the thermal amplitude between day and night is considerable, here the night temperatures remain high (more than 20 ° C).

The humidity level is very high, without this resulting in a high rainfall (100 mm on average per year). In mountainous areas, the average is 300 mm annually and temperatures fall by a few degrees. The rainiest months are November for Muscat and its region, and August and September for Salalah, in Dhofar.

From mid-April to October, the heat is stifling, scorching. Inland, mercury can exceed 45 ° C! The territory is swept by hot and dry winds, laden with dust.

The North enjoys almost permanent sunshine all year round (but some nights can be quite cold), while Dhofar, in the South, experiences a period of monsoon from July to September.

Best seasons to visit Oman

The best time to travel is between late October-early November and late March-early April, with temperatures around 28-30 ° C, both in the North and South. On the coast, the heat is quite bearable, with soft nights or a little cool.

It is also the rainy season: they are weak on the coasts, a little more abundant in mountain.

For diving, it is in April and October that divers will find better visibility. Between December and February, the sea can be a little agitated and troubled.

What to take in Oman

Summer clothing in any season, preferably in cotton or linen. Even if a majority of Omanis profess Ibadism, a softer trend of Islam, you will still avoid over-tight clothes, low-cut and skirts above the knee out of respect for your guests.

In town, prefer pants to shorts and bermudas, a tip that is for both women and men.

A woolen is recommended for nights in the desert, but also in town due to the omnipresent air conditioning.
