موضوع عن دولة مصر
Egypt, in long form,
the Arab Republic of Egypt is a country found in northeast Africa and, for the
Sinai Peninsula, in western Asia. Located on the southern coast of the eastern
Mediterranean, the Levantine basin, present-day Egypt occupies the geographical
space that was formerly that of ancient Egypt.
With over 92 million
inhabitants in 2017, Egypt is the third most populous country in Africa behind
Nigeria and Ethiopia. In very strong growth, its population has multiplied by
four in sixty years.
Its capital is Cairo
- القاهرة (al-Qâhira) and its currency the Egyptian
pound. If the official language of the country is Arabic, the spoken language
is Egyptian (dialectal Arabic). The siwi - tamazight (Berber) of the west of
the country - is still spoken in Siwa. The Coptic survives as the liturgical
language of the Christians of Egypt. As for the Nubian, it remains a language
spoken by the inhabitants of Upper Egypt, in the region of Aswan, an area
commonly known as Nubia.
Cities of Egypt
Alexandria, Saqqarah,
Aswan, Assiut, Banha, Dahab, El Arich, El-Mahalla El-Kubra, Hurghada,
Mansourah, Marsa Matruh, Luxor, Karnak, Kom Ombo, Port Safaga, Port Said, Sharm
el-Sheikh, Suez, Tanta, Zagazig, etc.
In 2015, a new
capital project proposes to move the political capital of Egypt to the east of
Cairo.
History
For nearly three
millennia, the Nile Valley saw one of the most brilliant civilizations in
history flourish. The invention of an original script in the form of ideograms,
the hieroglyphics, shortly after the appearance of the cuneiform in Mesopotamia
towards -3300, brought the human species out of Prehistory. The Egypt of the
pharaohs was thus able to flourish widely to reach its apogee in the thirteenth
century before our era, leaving a monumental work to the world heritage.
After many invasions
and occupations (mainly Persians, Greeks, Romans and Byzantines), the Christian
community, converted by St. Mark, Copts (Arabic deformation of the Greek word
Aiguptios: Egyptian) was formed in the first century. Today there are several
million. The country then passed under Arab domination in the seventh century,
then Ottoman.
The kingdom of Egypt
gained independence in 1922. Despite a long Ottoman and then British tutelage,
its culture is still strongly marked by the Arab identity, of which President
Gamal Abdel Nasser was one of the most famous pioneers.
Today, Egypt is part
of a Middle Eastern political framework imbued with its many conflicts with
Israel. In addition to its monumental works such as the Suez Canal or the Aswan
High Dam, it remains world renowned for its archaeological richnesses in
prestigious international museums. The disappearance of many archives, however,
means that its history remains fragmentary, although the evolution of
technologies makes it possible to better grasp its size and scope.
In January and
February 2011, a series of unprecedented demonstrations are taking place across
the country, leading to the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak on 11
February. The new parliamentary and presidential elections were won by the
Party of Freedom and Justice, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood.
However, power remained for a short time in their hands because important
demonstrations against the elected president, Mohamed Morsi, criticizing dictatorial
drifts, and the reversal of the army against him have deposed him in favor of
" a transitional government only one year after its election. Egypt has
been experiencing a period of turmoil caused by instability and political
tensions, particularly between opponents of the former president and those who
continue to support him and do not accept what they see as a coup Illegal
state. In May 2014, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, already considered the de facto
leader of Egypt, won the presidential election.
ésidentielle.
Demography
With over 92 million
inhabitants in 2017, Egypt is the third most populous country in Africa behind
Nigeria and Ethiopia. Egypt is also the most populous country in the Arab
world, the Middle East and the Mediterranean basin.
In the last fifty
years, the population of the country has increased by a factor of 3.5, with an
average population growth of more than 2% per year in recent years21. This
galloping demographic brings about many complications such as the lack of
housing, infrastructure, schools and jobs, not to mention the rising cost of
living.
The population is
very young: the median age is around twenty-four and one in three Egyptian is
under the age of fifteen.
